Turkey: Kick-off meeting 2021

The development of electricity prices and industry competitiveness through renewable power generation in Turkey was in the spotlight of the COBENEFITS online kick-off meeting. On the 10th of May 2021, the COBENEFITS project hosted the meeting for the upcoming 2021 assessment series.

The assessment aims to investigate the impacts of increased shares of renewable energy sources in Turkey’s power sector on the industrial sectors and the competitiveness of Turkey’s economy. The whole report is expected to be published within this year.

The project team, consisting of IASS, UfU, IET and IPC members, and the contractor EPRA came together to discuss the objectives of the study and the methodological approaches of the research, work packages and the timeline.

Based on consultations with the inter-ministerial COBENEFITS Council Turkey, the development of electricity prices for industrial consumers and industry competitiveness through renewable power generation in Turkey has been identified as a priority assessment topic for the 2021 assessment series.

In a first assessment series (2018−2020), the COBENEFITS project in Turkey, has already quantified the socio-economic benefits related to renewable energy deployment in the electricity sector with an outlook towards 2030. The earlier reports focused on following main topics: employment, industrial development, energy supply security, air quality, and people’s health costs.
